All a Flutter at Clyde Lake
My exploration of Clyde Lake in Callahan County, Texas. I was seeking a variety of native insects. My adventure turned out to be a wonderful catching session. It also turned out to be an awesome show of the Lake being all a flutter with Butterflies. I had a wonderful time watching nature. What a beauful day spent at Clyde Lake with my daughter/photographer Allison Britten. We spotted over 43 Monarch Butterflies while hiking the country side. I also spotted several Bumble Bees buzzing around the flowers. Several of them were dead in the gravel path. I also saw the explanation of their deaths. A huge black wasp was killing one. I collected the wasp and the deceased Bumble Bee. Since Bumble Bees are disappearing I did not want to capture and kill a live one. There were wonderful rock formations along the trails. This is a great place to collect and see insects, and animals native to the Callahan County area. Come and enjoy a picnic lunch at the Lake and take in the Nature, which you and your family will truly enjoy.
This is a picture of the Nest of Wasp's that were killing the Bumble Bees. The Blue Painted Damsels were everywhere they are amazing to watch. With the winds beings so high I was surprised to see so many flying insects out and about. Below are a few of the pictures that were taken on my outing. I added a rock to the Rock Circle that had been started. I also caught a huge Lady Bug on the rocks, but the Stink Bug escaped from me, but Allison managed to get it's picture before I swished and swooped my net. It is so wonderful to see the Lake filled again. Hope you enjoyed this session.
